TreeTop Walk Singapore | What to Expect on the 6km Trail
The TreeTop Walk Singapore is a place hikers and nature lovers traveling to Singapore should not miss. Located in Singapore’s largest reservoir, the TreeTop Walk and trail is full of natural attractions. You can experience the hiking trails, to the plants and animals, and the great scenery above the trees.
Why You Should Experience the TreeTop Walk
One of MacRitchie Reservoir’s most distinguishing feature is the 250m-long suspended bridge that connects the two highest points in the reservoir. From the bridge, you can get an incredible bird’s eye view of the park’s forest canopy. But be warned, getting to this bridge is not such a simple task. One must be prepared to walk through the forest trail to reach the suspended bridge. A few important things to know before preparing for the trail
Before preparing for the trail, there are some very important things you need to know:
Price: The TreeTop Walk is free for everyone to experience.
Operating Hours: The trail opens at 9 AM – 5 PM on weekdays and 8:30 AM – 5 PM on weekends. The trail is closed on Mondays unless it’s a public holiday.
Trail Difficulty: The trail is ranked “moderate to difficult” in terms of difficulty. Pregnant women, young children, and the elderly are not advised to walk the trail.
No Pets: Visitors are not allowed to bring pets with them on the trail, so unfortunately that means no dogs.
Preparing for the trail
Length and Duration: The Treetop Walk trail is about 6km from start to finish and will take 2 to 3 hours to complete.
Wear Proper Attire: It is a long trek and you should prepare yourself by wearing the right clothes and footwear like short sleeves and sneakers.
Beware the Climate: Since Singapore is a tropical island and you’ll be walking in a forested area, it is highly advised that you bring some sunscreen and insect repellants.
Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water because you’re sure to be sweating from the humidity.
How to get to the TreeTop Walk
There are two ways you can get to the TreeTop Walk, either by bus or by car.
The bus numbers 52, 132, 163, 166, 167, 855, and 980 will drop you off at the ESSO station where you can then head to Venus Drive.
You can also drive or take a cab straight to the Venus Drive carpark where you can then proceed on the path to TreeTop Walk.
Getting to the TreeTop Walk from the car park at Venus Drive will take you around an hour:
- After arriving at the car park, follow the path until you begin to see a forested area.
- As you walk, you will reach a junction with a bridge, to get to the TreeTop Walk, stick to the right.
- You are now on the Peirce Track, just keep following the path.
- You’re almost at the TreeTop Walk, but before heading to the bridge, stop at the Ranger Station and the signboard to learn more about how the suspended bridge came to be.

What you will experience during the trail
The trail that will take you to the TreeTop Walk is filled with many different species of plants and animals. Keep a lookout for some of the indigenous animals of the forest from the Long-tailed Macaque, to the Colored Monitor Lizard, or the Pangolin. There are also an abundant of beautiful plants and flowers you can see like the Torch Ginger Flower, Simpoh Air, or the Heliconia. Be sure to remember not to feed the animals though as it can affect their feeding pattern.
After seeing all the plants and animals on the trail, you will eventually arrive at the TreeTop Walk. At the 250m-long bridge, you will be greeted with an amazing sight of the forest canopy. Take photographs of the incredible scenery and show everyone how you braved the TreeTop Walk bridge that’s 250m long and 25m high.
