  • Focus on the Military Defence Pillar message
  • Learn how Yamashita was able to successfully apply the concept of manoeuvre warfare to cause the collapse of the British Defence in Singapore within seven days.
  • Understand the impact of war on civilians in the City Centre.
  • Be inspired by the indomitable spirit of individuals such as Lim Bo Seng and Elizabeth Choy during the Japanese Occupation in WWII.
  • Appreciate the need for a strong and ready SAF to protect the interests of our nation.
  • The Civic District covering City Hall and Singapore River vicinity hides a rich array of historical events behind its modern façade.
  • The trail will emphasize on the early days development of Singapore and how the Japanese Occupation changed the way Singapore view its previous colony status.
  • Through location-based mobile technology, useful content on the sites will be pushed to the participants via an app. Learn and bond together with your team mates through quizzes and mini-games.
  • The trail will cover Cenotaph, Lim Bo Seng Memorial, City Hall, Battlebox at Fort Canning, YMCA, The Cathay, Singapore Art Museum, Civilian War Memorial Park, Victoria Theatre and Fullerton Hotel.
  • Approximately 3 – 4 hours
  • Recommended group size would depend on mode of trail (Check with POC for more details.
  • Concurrent or staggered sessions could be conducted for larger group sizes, subject to availability of facilitators.

    • At the start of the trail, participants will be briefed by a facilitator on the tour’s overview and the technical aspects of the app-aided mode. The facilitator will guide participants on installing the mobile application onto each of their own mobile devices.
    • The trail commences with participants split into teams of between 10 to 40 participants in each team. The teams will then be embarking the trail on their own with the aid of the app Participants will assess useful content on the sites through mobile devices, and complete short quizzes.
    • The facilitator will revisit the learning points at the end of the trail.
    • Do note that there will be a provision of 1 facilitator for every 40 participants. The deployment of this facilitator will be subjected to a discussion between the unit and the POC.
  2. Teambuilding-focused

  • The trail will emphasize on the importance of the guns at Labrador Park and its connection to the guns at Sentosa and the reason of its failure to protect the troops defending Bukit Chandu from the Japanese attacks.

Escape Room @ Fort Canning Poster

  • Solve puzzles and rediscover Singapore’s pre-colonial past. Unravel in little known facts of Singapore’s ancient history
  • Learn how Singapore had adapted to a constantly changing world throughout its history
  • Unlock hidden treasures of the colonial pasts and how Fort Canning played a military role throughout Singapore’s history
  • Reflect on the past and present and understand the necessity of Total Defence in context of lessons learnt from our past
  • This activity is based on the concept of escape room, please note that it is an outdoor activity within the Fort Canning Park
  • Through the use of location-based mobile technology, augmented reality and image recognition, participants will be challenged to work together as a team to solve clues and puzzles planted all over Fort Canning. They will also draw lessons of National Education and Total Defence through each point of interaction throughout the activity.

  1. Teambuilding-focused
    • At the start of the Escape Room challenge, our Lead Facilitator will invite all participants from each bus-load of participants to be organized into their 4 or 5 predesignated groups of 4 to 8 participants per group (dependant on total number of participants per bus and based on nominal roll provided by the respective unit prior to the trail).
    • Once all the participants have been gathered into their respective groups, the Lead Facilitators will proceed to brief all participants on the TD significance of the Fort Canning activity, as well as the rules for the activity and winning mechanism
    • After the briefing, participants will be assigned into small groups and be given their first puzzle on their mobile devices to start their Escape Room adventure. They will be given 2 hours to complete the entire circuit. At selected pit stops, Game masters will provide a brief NE and TD context, before giving the participants their tasks and clues.
    • First team to arrive at the pitstop with all their pit stops checked in will be the winner.

  • Our conduct of NE activity does not require transport.
  • Units are encouraged to assemble at the start point of the event.
  • If bus transport is required, please refer to the SAF framework agreement to tap into transport arrangement, do include transport under NE fund application for your unit.


  • The contract does not cover rental of mobile devices.
  • Each participant is given an access code for the mobile trail.
